Sunshine State Standards and GLEs (Grade-Level Expectations)

The Sunshine State Standards are currently under revision by the Department of Education's Bureau of Curriculum and Instruction. Framers for the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards in the Arts (NGSSS-ARts) have completed a Charge to guide the discipline-specific Writing Teams. Dance, Music, Theatre, and Visual Art Writing Teams are currently meeting periodically to develop NGSSS for adoption by the State Board of Education. The NGSSS-Arts are being designed to facilitate preparation of Florida’s students to effectively engage, communicate, and compete globally with students around the world. Florida’s NGSSS-Arts will incorporate important skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, innovation, collaboration, and communication.

Public Review of Draft Standards: A window will open for forty-five (45) days on or about July 6, 2010. Educators, parents, students, and other stakeholders will be able to review the draft NGSSS in Dance, Music, Theatre, and Visual Art on-line and offer comments for consideration by the Writing Teams. Check this site periodically for links and updates.
